The Highway of Tears is a 724km length of the Yellowhead Highway 16 in Northern British Columbia. From 1989 to 2006, nine young women went missing or were found murdered along this highway. All but one were Indigenous. Many local First Nations believe the number to be much higher than 9, and in 2007 RCMP expanded the number of women in their investigation to 18, increasing the kilometre range to 1500.
